Jun. 1 - According to the Oakland Tribune, the Raiders are set to release Gannon, who is still recovering from a broken vertebra in his neck sustained early last season. Gannon said on the NFL Network last week he expects to meet with owner Al Davis this week and hinted a retirement announcement would follow. The 39-year old confessed to the Contra Costa Times on May 18 that he probably will not be able to play again.

"The outlook is not very good for me to come back and play," Gannon said.

Oakland will pick up $765,000 more in cap space once Gannon is either waived or files paperwork for his retirement. As of today, more than $4 million in bonus acceleration on Gannon's last contract will be pushed to the 2006 salary cap.
